FAQs

FAQs

Q How much does it cost?

There is no cost to the individual as the qualification is funded by the government.

Q How many hours do I have to work?

As a learner you will be expected to work in a salon 5 days each week Monday to Saturday and have at least one day off. You will work 30 to 40 hours per week including your time spent at the training academy.

Q Do I have to have a job in a salon already?

You cannot join our programme until you are employed in a salon, so we will offer suitable vacancies as and when they arise, as we have ongoing marketing campaigns. However, it is also your responsibility to find employment within a salon.

Q How much will I get paid?

At this present time the apprenticeship wage is a minimum of £2.50 per hour, set to increase to £2.60 from 1st October 2011.

Q Will the wage affect any benefits that the family receive?

Every individual is unique, we advise contacting the benefits office for information.

Q Do I need Qualifications?

You do not need any formal qualifications, but all learners must complete Initial Assessments. The results of this determine whether you are able to join the apprenticeship programme

Q How do I apply?

If you need to request an application form you can either call Head Office or apply via Connexions web site or find out more information on how to apply at our website.

Q What is the duration of the course?

The duration of the programme is 18 months - 2 years

Q How often do I come to the Academy?

You will attend the Academy 1 day per week which is inclusive of your work hours.

Q Do I have to supply my own kit?

All equipment e.g. hairdryers, brushes etc are available for use whilst in your salon. However, it is a requirement that you purchase your own kit, which can be ordered via Dimensions Training Solutions, at a reduced cost. In addition to this, we recommend that you build up your own hairdressing kit as your training progresses.
